2021 - 2022  Year-end Community Service Donations

  • 117 quilts
  • 101 dog beds
  • 21 comfort pillows (breast cancer surgery)
  • 38 Scribble dolls
  • 157 Misc Items

The guild has always been of service to the Texoma Community. Members continue to make charity quilts and other items.  There are various ways to participate.

How Can I Participate?

If you want to be involved but do not have time/skill to quilt, make a quilt top.  Any size works.  Please include the backing (at least 2-4 inches larger on all 4 sides of quilt tops.  You may also specify your special charity.  We are trying to focus on the charities within the counties of our members:  Bryan, Fannin and Grayson but are open to other suggestions.  As a member of our guild, feel free to sponsor/lead a specific quilt drive etc. for a special cause.  The Community Service Chairperson will be glad to share contact information of our generous long arm quilters who are interested in volunteering their quilting for your cause.   This year we have been encouraged  to make patriotic quilts for Veterans to give on Veterans Day.

You don’t have time to make a quilt or quilt top, make a smaller project.  There are patterns/links  for Scribble dolls and post surgery comfort pillows available on this website.

You can donate fabric to be used as quilt backs.   Got a lot of small scraps?  Cut them into rather small pieces, make a bag (think pillow case style), fill it ¾ full and sew shut.  Magic, you have a dog bed.  Any size really works.  It is a really good way to free your stash of that ugly material you will never use and wonder why you bought it.  If you do not have time to make a dog bed, drop your scraps off at Quilt Republic in Pottsboro.  The shop owner, has graciously said she would collect scraps and pass onto women making dog beds.

Seven Stars Foundation

“Many thanks to the Sherman Quilt Makers for donation of five wonderful quilts.  Seven Star sends children of military families to a week of YMCA camp.  Their goal is for each camper to receive their quilt in their backpack.  You are helping make that possible.
Thank you
Linda Speakman.”

Community Service Program

Family Promise of Grayson County family graduating the program by getting work and obtaining their own home:

Dear Sherman Quilt Makers, words are inadequate to express our gratitude for the beautiful quilt you gave the Davila family when they graduated into their own apartment.

It is absolutely a treasure, and each stitch will remind them how much they are loved.  That is a gift beyond measure.  I can’t even imagine how many hours went into making that.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  You are wonderful.

Very sincerely,

Leigh Walker

The greatest comfort comes from giving and receiving the smallest of gifts.

Denison fire victim.   I located one family and was able to give the father a quilt and four dog beds.  He had some serious tears in his eyes and thanked me profusely.
