Where and when are the guild monthly meetings?
The monthly meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month. Any changes to the meeting date is published on the guild calendar page and in the guild member newsletter. Monthly meetings are held at Parkside Baptist Church, 301 N. Lillis Lane, Denison, Texas. Social time begins at 5:30 and the meeting begins promptly at 6:00 pm.
Are visitors welcome to attend meetings?
Yes. Visitors are welcome.
How do I join the guild?
A membership form is available from the VP of Membership at the guild meeting. The form can be accessed on the Membership Info page. Membership can be completed online or by printing the membership form.
What is the cost to join?
Annual membership dues are $35.00 for the guild year beginning October 1 – September 30. Dues from renewing members is paid during the August & September membership renewal period. New members who join after the month of March pay $20 (pro-rated – April thru August). Membership form is available here.
Is the Texoma Quilt Guild on social media?
Yes, the guild has a public Facebook page and a private Facebook group. The public page is open to anyone interested in quilting. Click here to access our Facebook page. .
The private group is only open to current guild members. New members are given the opportunity to join . Members who elect not to renew their membership are removed from the privategroup.
What is Show and Tell
Show and Tell is an opportunity for guild members to show their current projects. Show and Tell is held after the program. Currently, show and tell is promoted using the guild's closed Facebook page.
Does the guild have a community service program?
The guild is an active supporter of local charities. We provide quilts, Scribble dolls, placemats, dog beds, breast cancer recovery pillows, fabric masks and face coverings, and other comfort quilt related projects. All guild members are encouraged to participate in the community service program by either participating in one of the community service projects, making a monetary donation toward a project or provide a particular service, ie: quilting, binding, providing material, etc.
Does the guild offer quilt workshop or classes?
During the pandemic, all face to face activies have been cancelled.
Yes. Occasionally, the guild will offer a workshop/class associated with a program speaker or from guild members. The fee associated with workshops are determined by the workshop instructor. These fees are payable in advance before your space is confirmed.Upcoming workshopts and classes can be viewed here.
Can a visitor attend a workshop or class?
Yes. In most cases a visitor can attend a workshop or class. An additional fee over the cost of the workshop or class may be charged. Guild members are given the opportunity to sign up first. If space is available, the workshop/class will be opened up to non-guild members.
What are Sew Days? Where are they held and is there a cost to attend?
Sew Days are an opportunity for members to sew together on individual projects. Sew Days is a great opportunity for new members to meet new quilting friends, learn new techniques and share ideas; and are usually scheduled on the Saturday immediately following the monthly guild meeting. The dates are printed in the newsletter and are posted on the calendar, on the guild website. The event is held at Friendship Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas from 10 am – 4 pm. The building is usually open by 9:30 am to allow for set up and social time. The fee to attend is $5.00 (guild members) and $10.00 (visitors). The fee collected is paid to Friendship Methodist Church to cover the use of their facilities. Friendship Methodist Church address: 293 Friendship Road Sherman, TX 75092.
Registration for (Friendship) Sew Day can be made at a guild meeting or by contacting the Sew Day Coordinator. The minimum attendance is 10 people. The event may be cancelled if the minimum is not met.
What happens during a Sew Day?
Sew day is an opportunity to work on your projects, to get to know your fellow guild members and create a lasting quilt friendship. Occasionally, a guild member will conduct a quilt related demonstration during the day. Lunch is on your own. Most who attend will bring a sack lunch or snacks to share.A refrigerator and microwave are available.
What are Day Sew Bees?
Day Sew Bees are scheduled on a monthly basis on the first, third, and fifth Tuesday each month, and are held at the Sherman Senior Citizen’s Center located at 1500 N. Broughton St. Sherman, TX 75090. There is no charge to attend. This is not a structured event. Attendees bring their own project to work on. The sew bee is held from 10 am – 4 pm. You are welcome to come and go during the day. Lunch is on your own. A variety of fast food restaurants are located within 3 miles of the center. Most who attend, elect to bring a sack lunch. Reservation to attend is not needed.
